Meet the newest adorable addition to the Virginia Zoo family!
A new addition to the Virginia Zoo family has brought joy and excitement to the staff and visitors. A siamang, an endangered ape, was born on March 15 to proud parents Malana and Bali. This birth is a significant milestone for the zoo, especially since it follows a breeding recommendation from the Siamang Species Survival Plan.
This adorable baby is the fourth siamang to be born at the zoo, adding to the growing population of these endangered animals. The entire family can now be observed in their dayroom on the Zoo’s Asia: Trail of the Tiger, showcasing the beauty and importance of these creatures.
Witnessing the bonding and support within the siamang group is a heartwarming experience for zoo staff, as they get to see the baby grow and thrive under the care of its parents. The gender of the baby is yet to be determined, but a future update will provide that information on the Virginia Zoo's social media platforms.
The birth of an endangered species is always a reason for celebration, as it represents hope for the conservation of these magnificent animals. The Virginia Zoo continues its commitment to the well-being and preservation of endangered species, making every birth a special and cherished event.
