Dramatic Video Shows Zookeepers Trapped in Gorilla Exhibit at Fort Worth Zoo
Recently, a video emerged showing two Texas zookeepers trapped inside a gorilla exhibit at the Fort Worth Zoo. The silverback gorilla, Elmo, unexpectedly entered the enclosure while the employees were still inside, prompting panic among visitors.
The tense situation was captured on video and quickly went viral, garnering over 25 million views in just a short amount of time. Fortunately, no physical contact occurred between the keepers and the gorilla, with both staff and animals emerging unscathed.
According to zoo spokesperson Avery Elander, the incident was a result of a "keeper error" that led to the keepers being unaware that the gorilla was still in the habitat. Despite the unexpected turn of events, the zookeepers remained calm, showcasing their knowledge and training in handling such situations.
Elmo, the 34-year-old silverback gorilla, has been a resident at the zoo for several years. In 2021, he welcomed a new addition to his family with the birth of Gus, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts in preserving these magnificent creatures.
